The cruise line announced today that the honor of christening the 5374-passenger ship will fall on music superstar Gwen Stefani. The songwriter, performer and vocalist has achieved global success, selling more than 60 million records as frontwoman of the band No Doubt as well as a solo artist. Her list of accolades include three Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, two Billboard Awards, an American Music Award and a Brit Award. "Carnival's Excel-class fleet will soon be a quintet of these very popular ships that provide outstanding guest amenities and tremendous operating efficiencies," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. Originally built in 2000 for Costa Cruises, Carnival Firenze will sail year-round from Long Beach.
